Description

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) prisoner-issued denim work jacket from an undisclosed California state prison. Constructed from heavyweight dark indigo denim with a button-front closure, large utility pockets, and bold yellow “CDCR PRISONER” identification across the back. This style was issued for institutional work assignments and daily prison use during the CDCR era following the department’s 2005 transition from CDC to CDCR.

Unlike many surviving examples that were heavily washed or repaired during service, this jacket retains strong color throughout the denim while displaying authentic signs of institutional wear. Visible staining, creasing, and use-related marks are present across the garment, while several seams have shifted over time, causing the jacket to hang slightly unevenly and giving it a distinctive worn-in character. These condition traits reflect prolonged correctional use rather than later fashion wear.
