Storm-V (Шторм-V) is a Russian penal military unit established around June 2023, replacing the earlier “Storm-Z” formations. Comprised primarily of recruited inmates and punished soldiers, these units are used as infantry assault troops in high-intensity battles on the Ukrainian frontline. They are known for limited training, often lasting only 10 to 12 days, and extremely high casualty rates in combat.
