Association

Personally owned and used by a Mayiza sicario known as ''Vagancia'' operating in Chiapas, Mexico. The radio formed part of the same personalized equipment set as the matching cap (SINALOA CARTEL SNAPBACK CAP 003) and bears identical insignia associated with the wearer's unit and regional command.

Description

Original Kenwood handheld two-way radio personally used by a member of La Mayiza, one of the two principal rival factions within the Sinaloa Cartel, during operations in Chiapas, Mexico. Commercial handheld radios such as those produced by Kenwood are widely employed by Mexican drug cartels due to their durability, simplicity, and ease of programming, making them a common means of tactical communication between sicarios, lookouts, and commanders.

Affixed to the front of the radio is the same custom parrot emblem seen on the owner's personalized snapback cap. The design features a parrot wearing a cowboy hat, together with the inscriptions "W-1," "R7," and "Sinaloa." As with the matching cap, the cowboy hat reflects the visual identity adopted by this Mayiza faction, while the parrot itself appears to have been a personal emblem selected by the regional commander who commissioned these items. The wearer could not provide a specific explanation for the choice of the bird, suggesting it served as a unique unit symbol rather than a broader cartel insignia.

Notes

The label visible on the radio in these photographs is not the original operational sticker. The original identification label was printed on transparent adhesive film, making it almost invisible against the black radio body when photographed. To better illustrate the artwork for documentation purposes, we temporarily overlaid it with an unused spare copy of the same design. This allows the parrot emblem and accompanying text to be clearly seen while accurately representing the appearance of the original transparent label.
