This original pair of Field Identification (FI) photographs documents the extensive tattoo coverage of a Kumi African Nation (KAN) member. Across the chest and torso are numerous personal and gang-related inscriptions, including "THUG NIGGA 4 LIFE," "THUGGISH LIFESTYLE," "TRUST NO BITCH," and "BORN KILLA," together with additional script tattoos and symbolic imagery covering the arms, shoulders, chest, and abdomen. The dominant back piece depicts a muscular Egyptian pharaoh rising from the outline of the African continent, while holding a MAC-10 machine pistol in one hand and a spear carrying a "415" banner in the other. Rather than simply referring to the San Francisco area code, the 415 serves as a direct reference to the San Francisco roots of the Kumi African Nation, whose founders were primarily from that region before establishing the organization inside Folsom State Prison during the mid-1980s.
Field Identification photographs such as these were produced to document permanent identifying features, enabling investigators to compare tattoos, scars, and other distinguishing characteristics across arrests and police contacts.
