Description

Hand-drawn prison artwork executed in ink on a cotton baseball cap. The cap features a central composition combining the face of a jaguar with the portrait of a mustached male figure bearing a tear beneath one eye, flanked by a prison guard tower beneath a moonlit sky. The brim displays the word "CALIFAS," a Chicano term referring to California. Additional imagery extends across the cap, including a Native American chief, an eagle, a woman, roses, a heart, architectural elements, and decorative motifs, forming a continuous wraparound composition.

Notes

The cap was created by an incarcerated Sureño-affiliated gang member serving a life sentence ("lifer") for four gang-related murders.
