Description

Contemporary California prison-made drawing associated with Peckerwood / white inmate art traditions, executed in a highly detailed black-and-grey tattoo style on paper. The composition combines a dense mix of dark-fantasy, erotic, and macabre imagery, including nude female figures, a large skeletal or demonic warrior gripping an oversized blade, skull formations, a tiger, a dragon, and a castle rising in the background.

The central skeletal figure dominates the composition, with exaggerated anatomical forms, an exposed ribcage, and a large curved weapon bordered with flame motifs. Around it, the artist layers fantasy architecture, monstrous faces, and female figures into a continuous scene, using strong contrast, smooth gradients, and dense “cheese” shading to connect the individual elements.

Our photo books provide rare, first-person perspectives from within otherwise inaccessible worlds, often created in direct collaboration with those involved. 550BC is also home to a private collection of over 2,000 unique physical items, preserved artifacts from the worlds we document. A selection is presented in our online archive.
