Description

The composition centers on an urban streetscape with a large arched entrance marked “MEXICO”, framed by brick walls and a gated opening.

On the left and right are stylized cholo / Hispanic gang-member depictions, reinforcing the street and barrio context of the piece. On the left, a large crying female head appears behind a cluster of three clown-like faces arranged as a “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” motif, with the corresponding eyes, ears, and mouth covered. A prison guard tower rises behind this group, directly tying the scene to incarceration.

At right, a seated bandana-wearing male figure appears beneath an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, combining gang and street imagery with religious devotion.
