Description

Original Wagner Africa-themed morale patch featuring a stylized skull flanked by two palm trees. The upper inscription reads "Белые дяди" ("White Uncles"), while the lower inscription reads "В Африке" ("In Africa"). At the bottom center, the numeral "19" is separated by three rifle cartridges, with the cartridges forming a stylized "W" between the "1" and "9", an overt reference to Wagner. Embroidered in subdued grey, black, red, green, and white thread, this patch represents one of several unofficial regional insignia associated with Wagner's African deployments. This example remains in excellent condition, with only accumulated dirt and light operational soiling consistent with field use.

550BC is an independent publishing house based in Amsterdam, founded in 2018. Specializing in the complex realities of organized crime and conflict, we explore these subjects through the lens of visual anthropology. Our photo books provide rare, first-person perspectives from within otherwise inaccessible worlds, often created in direct collaboration with those involved. 550BC is also home to a private collection of over 2,000 unique physical items, preserved artifacts from the worlds we document. A selection is presented in our online archive.
