Personalized CD wallet belonging to a Bassett Grande 13 gang member, heavily marked with hand-scratched and handwritten gang-related inscriptions. The exterior carries the name “Ernie,” “Bassett Grande,” a large “BG”, and additional neighborhood or clique references, while the interior continues with further names, aliases, and graffiti-style lettering.
The case retains its original homemade CD mixes, each individually marked in pen with names, initials, and personal tags. The combination of customized casing, gang identifiers, and surviving music compilation discs gives the piece a particularly personal quality, preserving both the owner’s gang affiliation and everyday listening culture.
Rather than being a purpose-made gang object, it is a common personal item transformed through repeated inscription into a distinctly individual artifact of Southern California street-gang culture.
