Iranian M62-pattern steel combat helmet associated with the Basij volunteer forces and the Iran–Iraq War era. Finished in a sand/khaki paint, the shell shows extensive service wear, paint loss, surface abrasion, and age consistent with prolonged military use. Iran acquired West German M62 helmets before the 1979 Revolution and subsequently produced local variants, which were widely used throughout the Iran–Iraq War.
The helmet is shown with a red religious headband of the type strongly associated with Basij and Revolutionary Guard personnel. During the war, red, green, and other colored headbands carrying Shi'a religious and political slogans became closely connected with battlefield sacrifice, martyrdom, Karbala, and devotion to the revolutionary leadership. Contemporary photographs and archival material document Iranian fighters wearing such headbands during the conflict.
